Why Product Producers Love
Affiliate Marketing
by David Cooper
Some of us can produce wonderful informational or software products that
would undoubtedly be popular with a sizeable segment of the online
population. Great ideas seem to come almost naturally; we have a creative
instinct and a real knack for producing wonderful items.
Unfortunately, that skill set isn't always accompanied by a desire or an
ability to effectively sell the things we do and can make. Our great ideas
either end up pushed aside or earn us only pennies when they could be
genuine hits.
There is a solution to this commonly-encountered problem: affiliate
marketing. Product producers can use affiliate marketing to reach hordes of
potential buyers. It allows creators to marshal a massive sales force of
marketing experts who are willing to sell the products without demanding so
much as a dime up-front.
Here's how it works. The producer makes a product and shares it with the
affiliates who then sell it online on a commission-only basis. The
affiliates take care of all of the marketing efforts and costs associated
with them. The end result is a huge bounty of sales for a product creator
who otherwise may not have seen so much as a red cent.
The expenses involved in using affiliate marketing as a product producer are
minimal. A sales page for your product will usually be required. If one has
a knack for writing great sales copy and can put together a relatively
simple site, it's a do-it-yourself project. Alternatively, he or she can
find a reasonably priced copywriter and/or site designer to handle the
task(s). Finding a host for the site (if one doesn't already have space
available) and setting up a payment method will also be necessary, but these
are easily manageable tasks.
One can either have a service handle administration of the affiliate program
or they can invest in the software to run their own program. Services may
charge a basic membership fee and a small percentage of total sales
receipts. They will generally put your product in front of their army of
sales experts, allowing one to build a powerful sales force quickly. Running
one's own program does require some expenditure in implementation and the
willingness to dedicate adequate time to the task, including affiliate
recruitment.
Regardless of the system used, the underlying principles remain the same. If
one can provide a good product and a compelling sales page, affiliates will
deliver customers. Higher commission rates and earning opportunities, of
course, tend to motivate more internet marketers to back one's products.
Compared to traditional offline sales, one usually pays affiliates a high
commission rate. However, this inducement can motivate some very impressive
results.
If a person can produce some great products for online buyers but don't have
well-honed marketing skills, consider involvement with an affiliate program.
It can produce substantial revenue streams with minimal hassle and effort.
