How "Easy" Is Affiliate Marketing?
by Tiffany Dow
People are always talking about how easy affiliate marketing is. But what
usually happens is some poor sap gets an AdWords account and his entire
budget is blown with the first five minutes.
Are the people behind this theory of easy money promoting a blatant scam,
or is it just easy for some people? Actually, affiliate marketing can be a
goldmine for anyone - but they have to know what they're doing to make the
venture successful.
As an affiliate marketer, you may be lured in by the fact that there's no
product creation, no website to maintain, and no customer service
complications to worry about.
But there's a downside that's often not talked about. The reason product
owners are willing to shell out 50-75% of their revenue per sale is because
you'll be doing the work to drive traffic to their site.
Does work mean it's hard? Not necessarily. If you really have a clear
education on affiliate marketing, you can work smart, work very few hours,
and work without a big investment of money.
Of course, there are thousands of products available for you to align
with - so how do you go about choosing a viable product that will maximize
your income and minimize returns?
You want to look for a program that has a good sales letter first and
foremost. If the site can't convert the sale, then you won't be seeing any
paychecks - even if the product itself is amazing.
Find out how much commission the program offers. If the commission is
high, but the price point is low, you might want to promote something with a
lower payout, but a high price point.
Site owners can't fake the amount of sales they're getting for their
products. When you go to ClickBank, you can see the actual real time stats
of the product - how many sales have been made by others promoting the same
product.
Do you always choose the top performing affiliate programs to promote?
No. There are new products launching every day, and that means fewer
competitors for you in the marketplace. Look for something unique that
customers will find valuable and irresistible. Affiliate marketing is
definitely growing as a means to financial freedom in the world of online
selling strategies, but it's disappointing to see so many victims on the
side of the road who rushed into it without learning from a professional
mentor about how to protect their efforts.
